Like many colleagues, I pivoted in my medical career to reduce moral injury and burnout. This was a difficult decision to make after working full time for 25 years in a very fulfilling position. Yet, in early 2021 I knew I needed a change.
When I stepped away I was exhausted and sad—tired of no restful sleep for decades and tearful leaving my patients, some of whom I had cared for since before 1996 when I first started private group practice. I had no idea what I was going to do next.
I was certain that I no longer wanted to work in the corporatized system that is destroying so many doctor-patient relationships. The worsening consolidation of medical employment by big companies (insurance and the like) was also a turnoff.

Resting and breathing helped bring my creativity back. I already had experience running a concierge medical practice. I had founded a weight management and wellness program. I had developed a complementary medicine program. I piloted a pre-pandemic telemedicine platform. My mind was now buzzing with ideas.
Focus groups with 50 former patients helped me set the stage as I created a novel medical consultation and patient advocacy business model. It’s been such an honor to be of service to patients via a virtual platform, and I’m delighted to celebrate myMDadvocate’s third anniversary on February 14, 2025.
Just as rewarding, I’ve sat and had coffee with dozens of colleagues, chatted via phone, gone for walks, met for lunch, and talked shop for hours via FaceTime. I’m proud to be active at local, state and national levels responding to healthcare consolidation and corporatization.
I am truly humbled to be of service to my colleagues—physicians need support now more than ever!
